A Musical Journey with ABLE KANE

- Joe Romano began his professional music career as the drummer for the band ABLE KANE. After several members departed, Joe assumed leadership of the group and set out to rebuild its lineup. Following extensive auditions - more than 100 guitarists - Joe discovered Steve Parry, whose musicianship and songwriting aligned perfectly with his vision. Together, they reformed ABLE KANE with a fresh direction but eventually parted ways to pursue individual paths.

- Joe auditioned for a new band as a drummer and, during that process, met bassist Jeff Nardo. Though neither joined the band they auditioned for, they saw musical potential in one another and formed a new incarnation of ABLE KANE. Joe soon invited guitarist Dino DiDomenico, whom he had seen perform live, to join the band. Dino accepted the offer. Joe also began playing guitar during this period and brought in one of his drum students to handle percussion. When that arrangement did not work out, Joe returned to the drums, and the group once again searched for a second guitarist.

- Guitarist Bob Alek responded to a classified ad and auditioned for the band. During the session, he revealed that he was also a lead vocalist. Once Joe heard Bob sing, he was convinced that Bob was the voice ABLE KANE had been missing. Joe also reached out to former collaborator Steve Parry, who enthusiastically agreed to rejoin the group. The band’s chemistry began to solidify.

- The members - Joe Romano (drums), Jeff Nardo (bass), Bob Alek (vocals/guitar), Dino DiDomenico (guitar), Steve Parry (guitar), and newly added keyboardist Dave Dettra - began writing together and realized they had captured something special. With the lineup complete, they entered the studio to record a cover of “Happy Together” by The Turtles. That project led them to Studio 4, where studio owner Phil Nicolo invited the band to record their debut album under his direction.

- The result was ABLE KANE Stealing The Show, a self-produced album that would go on to become a sought-after collector’s item decades later. Although the band completed the album, tragedy struck when Pete DeAngelis, a legendary producer and founder of Chancellor Records, passed away. Pete had shown great interest in the group and had pledged to secure a recording and publishing deal for them with industry icon Don Kirshner. He had also promised to cover studio expenses. Following Pete’s death, those promises were left unfulfilled, and the band was forced to self-finance the completion and independent release of their album.

- Forty years after its original release, Joe returned to the project with a renewed sense of purpose. At Tribe Sound Recording Studio, he enhanced the original tracks by adding new guitar parts and updated keyboard layers. With Chris Cotter co-producing and Steven Blevins engineering, Joe brought to life the sound he had always envisioned for the album back in 1983.

- ABLE KANE’s classic album returns under the title Stealing the Show Again, reissued by our friends at Eonian Records. This special edition features remastered sound, refreshed production elements, and newly enhanced artwork and booklet. The re-release stands as a tribute to Joe Romano’s unwavering vision and dedication to preserving the legacy of ABLE KANE.
